Hypertension nephropathy: How high blood pressure cause renal impairment

Hypertension nephropathy refers to the renal disease caused by high blood pressure. When people are attacked by the kidney disease, due to the insufficient blood and oxygen in kidney, the renin will secrete more and worse the high blood pressure condition. Thus, the kidney disease and high blood pressure would form a bad circle, damaging body tissues. Then how blood pressure cause the renal impairment?

Hypertension is a disease characterized with increased arterial pressure, long-term high blood pressure can lead to renal impairment directly, which is known as hypertensive nephropathy. Hypertensive nephropathy doesn’t bring about obvious symptoms in its early stage, patients may just come across frequent night urine, or slight proteinuria which can be discovered by examination, but the end-stage manifestation of the disease will be uremia, researches suggest that 15 percent of patients with high blood pressure will develop ESRD.

Hypertensive nephropathy can be divided into malignant arteriolar nephrosclerosis and benign arteriolar nephrosclerosis. The former one means the glomerular artery diffuse lesion that caused from rapidly-progressive high blood pressure, which will lead to sharp decline of kidney function, patients may develop ESRD in short period in this case. The benign arteriolar nephrosclerosis means patients develop renal arteriole hyalinosis after long-term high blood pressure, which lead to ischemia and anoxia to renal blood vessel, then inflammatory infiltration releases nephrotoxic cytokines which will cause the renal impairment.

When patients develop kidney dysfunction, their blood pressure is more likely to rise, it will in turn impair the kidney, this is important reason that cause the hypertensive nephropathy develop into renal failure. Other influences can be come from alcohol, race, gender, high blood fat, high serum uric acid and high blood sugar, those factors influence each other and aggravate patient’s kidney damage, so to patients with hypertension, the critical thing to prevent or slow down kidney damage is to get the blood pressure under control.

So controlling the blood pressure in a steady and normal level is very important for kidney disease patients to inhibit the development of hypertension nephropathy. So pay more attention to the treatment and lifestyle to keep the blood pressure.
