What are the Clinical Manifestations of Purpura Nephritis?

1. High blood pressure

Approximately 20-40% of Purpura Nephritis patients may develop increased blood pressure.

2. Swelling

Swollen joints in knees and ankles are commonly seen in people with Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) and kidney disease due to water retention.

3. Hematuria

Hematuria is a common sigh that HSP has affected the kidneys. This occurs due to large amounts of red blood cells′ leaking from the kidneys into the urine.

4. Protein in urine

The kidneys have lots of special blood vessels that filter the blood all the time. When HSP cause severe damage to the filters (glomeruli), protein leaks from the glomeruli into the urine, resulting in proteinuria.

5. Pain

For some patients with this kidney disorder, they may suffer from pain in joint, knee, abdomen, hands and feet.

If the condition is advanced, the patients may also have shortness of breath, itchy skin, loss of appetite, fatigue or tiredness, headache, etc.
